Green Dragons
Font Color: seagreen
Dragon Size: 17-26 feet
Classification: Chromatic.
Gender: Female.
Impresses: Hetero/homo/bisexual (fe)males, ages 12-20.
Flights: Flies from 2-7 times a year; can be caught by bronzes, blues and browns; most often blues and browns.
Clutches: Does not clutch due to a sex-linked disability triggered by chronic firestone usage.
Threadfighting Skills: Ranges from fair to excellent; does not have stamina to last out Fall, but speed can be near-perfect; catches most of Thread; chews firestone; may fly the upper wings.
Overall Description: Their numerous ranks overflowing and possibly even matching those of all of their other kin put together, greens are the most numerous dragons on Pern. Had they the endurance of their larger siblings, they would be the greatest Threadfighters on the planet, for they possess immense quantities of flexibility, and are unbelievably dextrous during flight. Since, however, they do not retain that quality, greens generally alternate during Threadfall with other greens and blues in their wings, flying the upper ranks of the highest altitude wing. They may even endeavor- and succeed- in becoming Wingleader of the upper wings, though this position has, in the past, usually been given to a bronze or a brown. As expected, they make up most of the Wings' ranks, and are the spinal column of the wings. For without greens, Pern's draconic ranks would be heavily depleted. Their sizes may range from twenty to twenty-four feet long and are possibly the most versatile Impressors of all the dragons, as they will technically Impress to a female or male of any sexual orientation. Of late, the fact that females can Impress to anything save golds seems to have been forgotten, so male greenriders are generally more common, and are preferred by the Wingleaders, for male greenriders cannot grow pregnant from their green's frequent flights. As Kitty Ping, during her genetic tinkering, removed the reproductive ability within greens, green dragons cannot clutch, but green firelizards can and do. The number of eggs within their clutch can range from six to ten eggs, though their average is approximately six, and the majority of the clutch will be greens. As they possess none of the maternal instinct of golds, green clutches rarely survive, and often serve as meals for tunnelsnakes. Greens may rise from five to ten times a Turn, and can be caught by any male that chases after them- be it blue, brown, or the rare bronze, but the most stereotypical mating is blue-to-green.
Blue Dragons
Font Color: Seablue
Dragon Size: 25-30 feet
Classification: Chromatic.
Gender: Male.
Impresses: Hetero/homo/bisexual (fe)males, ages 12-20.
Flights: May chase greens; has never had a recorded blue chasing a gold.
Clutches: Not partnered with golds, therefore n/a.
Threadfighting Skills: Ranges from fair to excellent; does not have stamina to last out Fall, but speed can be near-perfect; catches most of Thread; chews firestone; may fly the upper wings.
Overall Description: Of the varied hues that are lesser in size- though not in speed or deftness in flight- than the metallics, the blues are in possession of the most stamina among the chromatic colors. Stereotyped as the workers of the species of dragons, they are naturally inclined to be so, for blues are built with a stout and hardy body structure- in combination with much more endurance than any of their green siblings. And their size, typically a fairly respectable twenty-four to thirty feet long on average, tend to enhance this attribute. Blues can be Impressed by males of any type of sexual preferences, and the majority of the blues are Impressed by males regardless of preference, though the possibility of a blue Impressing a female is not unthinkable, albeit somewhat rare- certainly rarer than a female Impressing a green in this time and age. The girl must also be of the right personality, corresponding to the dragon's own, and possess the right preferences for that particular dragon, though all girls in general seem to be acceptable to the blue. Blues typically fly after greens; there has never been a record of a single blue flying after a queen. They form the actual ranks of the Threadfall wings. Without blues and greens, the wings would be utterly incapacitated, for there wouldn't be enough dragonriders. Also, like their green cousins, they fly the upper ranks of the highest altitude's wings, alongside their green mates- and have incurred a reputation as the most loyal and steadfast of the colors, in both their duties and other things. Despite that apparent stereotype, their true personas may range from many different varieties- though, as always, the majority of them possess the enormous strength of will and stamina that characterizes their color. Strangely, besides that determined work-ethic stereotype, the blues possess no other cliche for them to fall into; they can be absolutely anything and everything that they could wish to be. Blues, along with their green cousins, hold the majority of the Weyr positions, and occasionally may even endeavor to become the usually dragonless Weyrsinger; another example of their flexible, adaptable personas.
Brown Dragons
Font Color: #996633
Dragon Size: 30-35 feet
Classification: Chromatic.
Impresses: Hetero/homo/bisexual males, ages 12-19.
Flights: May fly after golds and greens both; presently encouraged to do so, so as to breed less dragons.
Gender: Male.
Clutches: May sire up to 30 eggs (approximated); unable to sire queen eggs.
Threadfighting Skills: Fair; has less stamina than bronzes but more speed; chews firestone; may fly the middle to upper wings.
Overall Description: There are none who are more average, and yet, more extraordinary under the circumstances that Pern has presented, than the brown dragons. For despite everything, they tend to be middle-ranking males of middling sizes, speed, dexterity and most other traits as well, though the few qualities within which they excel render them nearly as prized by the Wingleaders as the speedy, versatile blues and the dextrous greens. Though the majority of them are somewhat stockier than their indolently lean bronze cousins and their lithe blue siblings, they can still manage to be forces to be reckoned with, their lengths ranging from thirty to thirty-seven feet- the greatest variety that Pern has produced in the dragons. After the bronzes and golds, browns possess the greatest quantity of stamina - though that is the metallic specialty. Unfortunately, for the price of being able to combine the best qualities of both the sensible, work-knowledgeable blues and the languidly leaderly bronzes, they are neither as swift or as powerful in flight as the blues, nor as capable of enduring as bronzes- otherwise, they, too would have been flying queen dragons rather than whichever green rises. Browns are generally thought of as the combination of all the advantages between metallic and chromatic, with the least responsibility inflicted. Otherwise, their stereotype counts them as stolid and very much reliable. During Threadfall, they usually take the solid position of Wingsecond in the upper and middle fighting wings, though this is only for the lower wings; in the higher wings, with the blues and greens, they will fly on the lower level. They Impress all manners of males, whether heterosexual, homosexual, or bisexual, but typically lean towards the formermost and the lattermost - they do not Impress females. They are capable of doing many things when bestirred, including flying golds, though their pairings have yet to produce a gold egg.
Bronze Dragons
Font Color: #C09100
Dragon Size: 35-38 feet.
Classification: Metallic.
Gender: Male.
Impresses: Heterosexual males, ages 12-21.
Flights: Generally chase after golds and greens; most notably after golds.
Clutches: May sire up to 60 eggs; only dragon capable of siring queen eggs.
Threadfighting Skills: Ranges from poor to fair; has stamina to last out Fall, but speed is generally slow; chews firestone; may fly the middle to lower wings.
Overall Description: Of the male dragons, bronzes dominate the species as the ones who fly the golds most often, the ones who most often become Wingleader of the lower wings (they are too sizeable and unmaneuverable for the higher wings, where all the action takes place). Their size ranges from thirty-five to forty feet; never larger than a queen dragon, though in rare cases, they may be the same size. For the most part, bronzes become Weyrleaders, though in recent Turns, the former surety that a bronze would become a Weyrleader has begun to be contested by some of the larger, more aggressive of the browns. Bronzes can be Impressed by males of varying personalities, but the males will always be heterosexual. Their forte is composed by their strength and stanima - many bronzes may last out the entirety of a Fall without changing. Their flaws, however, lie in the fact that though they may be possessed of great durability, they are not as dexterous as their smaller siblings, and so fly the lower fighting wings during Threadfall. However, their strength makes them something of a wanted resource for being a Wingsecond or a Wingleader, flying the upper and middle ranks in the lower fighting wings.. They always chew firestone, unless they have newly been birthed of shell, and are also the only ones capable of siring a golden egg in a clutch. Only bronze-gold matings have produced golden eggs so far. They do, however, produce the largest clutches sired in golds.
Gold Dragons
Font Color: #E59151
Dragon Size: 38-45 feet
Classification: Metallic.
Gender: Female.
Impresses: Heterosexual females, ages 14-24.
Flights: Generally flies 1-3 times a year; encouraged to be caught by browns to produce less eggs, although may also be caught by bronzes. Has never been a recorded blue-gold pairing.
Clutches: Up to 60 eggs with multiple queen eggs. Minimum eggs clutched number 9.
Threadfighting Skills: Extremely poor; does not chew firestone; generally flies the lower wings with flamethrowers to flame the Thread that the upper wings miss.
Overall Description: The goldrider within the Weyr who flies for a mating flight first is generally the unquestioned Weyrwoman of her Weyr; however, during times when none of the queens are particularly proddy, the seniormost of the goldriders is looked to as the leader of the Weyr. Whoever becomes Senior Weyrwoman permits their Weyrmate to automatically attain the status of Senior Weyrleader, and from thereon continue the goldrider levels. Weyrs may contain up to five queens before they are counted as overpopulated, but only the first three are technically bestowed any political power. The queens of the species, they are the only ones who clutch, and may fly once to three times a Turn to produce clutches. Their statistics may range from ten to sixty eggs, and may contain a gold egg if bronzes fly them, though it has been written in old records that Faranth clutched multiple queen eggs at a time. When flown on the rare occasion by browns, they will produce a strong clutch, but with no gold egg - this is an encouraged pairing during Intervals, so as to prevent excess needs to be tithed to by the Hold. Kitty Ping, creator of dragons, conditioned their bodies against firestone, caution against permitting the reproducers to die out; their systems would cause them to vomit up any firestone they chew, thus safely securing golds as the mothering dragons of the species. Their Threadfighting skills are extremely poor, in any case - they generally occupy the lowest ranks in the wings, using flamethrowers to sear the patches that the upper wings miss. They are named queens for a reason - no dragon has the will within him to ever disobey a queen dragon’s command. Only other queens are capable of doing so. They are Impressed solely by heterosexual females.
